A Strategy-focused Learning Experience for Future Leaders at BMD​

THE CHALLENGE

BMD is a national group of companies engaged in engineering design, construction and land development for clients and partners in the urban development, transport infrastructure and resources and energy sectors. As part of BMD’s Future Leaders Program, Fortitude, The Strategy Group was engaged to facilitate the culminating module. This module focused on empowering emerging leaders with strategic thinking, innovation, and diversification capabilities to position BMD for future growth. The goal was to cultivate curiosity, adaptability, and multi-perspective thinking in participants while enhancing their ability to address complex challenges.

​THE APPROACH

The Strategy Group designed and facilitated an immersive learning experience over two half-day sessions for emerging leaders

The Strategy Group prioritised delivering effective outcomes through an immersive learning experience. Our program was specifically designed for future leaders, offering a series of sessions to equip them with the necessary confidence and clarity to address complex project challenges and make strategic decisions.

Our approach consisted of the following across two half-day sessions:

  • Day 1: Facilitate a session to equip participants with tools and frameworks for strategic thinking and execution.
  • Day 2: Critique each of the four groups’ presentations, followed by a session exploring effective communication methods and techniques

With our approach, leaders developed critical skills in a shorter timeframe, enabling them to apply their newfound knowledge and expertise in a more impactful way.

OUTCOMES​

Equipping future leaders with tools and frameworks for strategic thinking and implementation

Leaders who undertook the program were able to:

  • Develop a deeper understanding of how strategy and innovation impact every individual within the organisation, fostering a collective shift towards innovative mindsets.
  • Identify barriers that hinder ideas and learn to leverage key drivers essential for successful strategy and innovation processes.
  • Gain clarity on the strategy process and its role as the foundation of innovation, enhancing organisational alignment.
  • Learn strategic frameworks and guiding principles to embed and sustain innovative thinking effectively across teams and projects.
